GF Snack Idea: Yogurt

January 31, 2012

Yogurt + fruit is yummy. But how about spicing up that plain yogurt with just two simple staples from the rack? Or cupboard, whatever.

Kay, ready for this? Aight. So say you have some fruit. And you’re like “Mmm, I love fruit, but I also have a hole the size of Banff in my stomach and it is NOT ENOUGH” then my friend I would advocate for you to add some yogurt to that there pile of cut-up fruit.

Behold.

“But Ariel,” you say, “All I have is plain yogurt and it completely drowns the fruit until all I’m tasting is lactobacillus and it’s weird.”*

Well my duck, there is a simple fix for this: Just add some cinnamon and nutmeg to your yogurty fruit mix!

The spices cut the strong taste of yogurt and bring out the natural sweetness and flavour of the fruit. I used orange and banana, but it works for pretty much every kind of fruit salad!

My roomie definitely did this on Saturday and it blew my mind with amazingness – we had apple, mango, and papaya salad. You can eat this as a snack, or start your day healthy by having it for breakfast.

Until next time!

*Unless yogurt + fruit is sweet enough for you and hey, sometimes it is, but I’ve got the healthy, unsweetened kind because it was on special this week and also so I can have weird, healthy-person moral high ground.
